CULTURE NEWS

  • Local stargazers will see Saturn & the moon appear very close together after sunset on Friday, Jan. 23. Look west at dark-sky sites like Geauga Observatory Park or Fry Family Park to catch this rare celestial conjunction.  Mansfield News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Zumper report shows that median apartment rents in Mansfield increased 9% from $800 last December to $873 in December, compared to last month's $870. One-bedroom and two-bedroom units each rose 8% from last year—local rents remain much lower than state and national medians.  Mansfield News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Richland County Foundation is accepting college and career-tech scholarship applications for eligible high school seniors, college students, and non-traditional applicants, with new applicants needing at least a 2.5 GPA. The college scholarship deadline is April 1 plus awards are sent directly to schools.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Richland Academy of the Arts will offer free StrongHER TogetHER workshops for female athletes ages 12-18 and their female guardians starting Feb.7 at the academy; sessions on Saturdays from 2-5 p.m. cover leadership, mental health and wellness (funded by the Women’s Fund) for local residents.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Richland County Transit launched EZFare today (a free digital tool) to offer riders single-trip, day and monthly passes using credit, debit, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The app supports cash loading at local retail spots while traditional cash fares remain accepted.  Mansfield News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mansfield Senior returned to its Tyger Basketball style with a 70-42 revenge win over Lexington Tuesday night at home. The Tygers will host West Holmes on Jan. 23 as they continue pushing for an Ohio Cardinal Conference title.  Mansfield News Journal
