  • Mansfield Cemetery was established in 1845 from a 20-acre purchase from Benjamin Johns and now spans over 380 acres south and east of downtown Mansfield—managed by the Mansfield Cemetery Association. It includes the Hebrew Cemetery, Potter’s Field, and the Old County Burial Ground as well as historic monuments like a large granite tribute to John Sherman.  1812Blockhouse
  • The Richland County Foundation will host its Annual Meeting on May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at Kingwood Center Gardens to share updates on its community work and future plans—Chairman Chris Hiner and CEO Allie Watson will lead the presentations while attendees enjoy a $30 lunch.  1812Blockhouse

  • The ULA Atlas V rocket launched April 28 from Cape Canaveral carrying Amazon’s first Project Kuiper satellites into orbit (a step to build a global network to challenge Starlink). Local viewers in Ohio saw the rocket about 5.5 minutes after liftoff, depending on weather.  Mansfield News Journal

  • Dr. John Boyle—convicted in 1990 for killing his estranged wife Noreen—is set to have his parole review on Oct. 1, marking his third attempt for release.  Mansfield News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Central State College will hold its graduation ceremony on May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Campus Recreation Center with a procession from Ovalwood Hall—Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman will deliver the keynote address. A celebration picnic for graduates, faculty and staff is scheduled for May 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kee Hall—organizers have released full event details.  Mansfield News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • S Martinelli and Company voluntarily recalled more than 170,000 bottles of apple juice sold in Ohio, Kentucky and 26 other states after concerns about patulin contamination arose. The recall covers 7,234 cases of juice packaged as four 10 oz bottles per pack with a best by date of Dec. 5 and is classified as Class II for food safety.  Mansfield News Journal
