EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Astronomers say that T Coronae Borealis (a binary star system 3,000 light years away) will soon go nova and shine as bright as Polaris over Ohio. The explosion is expected in the next few months and will last about a week as the star builds up hydrogen before its burst. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ High school students entering grades 9–12 can join free electronics camps at Ohio State Mansfield in August. The beginner camp (Aug 4–7) teaches C++ basics with Arduino kits while the intermediate camp (Aug 11–14) focuses on integrating sensors and motors; students must bring their own Windows laptops and apply by May 23. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Ohio High School Athletic Association Spring Sports Tournaments begin today with softball and tennis games starting at 5 p.m., and the 2025 MNJ Spring Sports Postseason Schedule runs through June 15 — listing sectional, district, regional and state contests in softball, baseball, tennis and track. Local teams, including Mansfield Christian on May 14, will compete in matchups as the season unfolds. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Baseball coaches met Sunday to set the tourney trails for the 2025 OHSAA Baseball Tournament with Richland County teams and others scheduled for sectional and district games at Tiffin University, Willard, Shelby High School, and Galion’s Heise Park from May 20 through May 31 — for example, the Lexington Minutemen will host Mansfield Senior at 5 p.m. on May 22 — and the matchups will decide each district champion.
