CRIME NEWS

  • METRICH detectives, Richland County ASORT and Mansfield Police seized 590 grams of suspected cocaine — along with $26,752 in cash and oxycodone — at a Burns Street residence on June 11 and arrested a 49-year-old Mansfield man on drug trafficking charges, with further charges set to be forwarded to the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.  Mansfield News Journal

  • Forty-five Richland County high school baseball players earned postseason honors in 2025 and were named on the All-Mansfield News Journal teams. The list recognizes players from several schools and divisions—awarding first, second and third team accolades.  Mansfield News Journal
  • New owners Matt and Jordan Tifft announced plans to revive Mansfield Speedway and thanked the local community for its support as they prepare to add new events and improvements to the track—bringing fresh excitement to local racing.  Mansfield News Journal
  • The OHSAA board approved changes to the football playoff format for 2025, reducing qualifiers per region to 12 and giving the top four seeds a first-round bye. The new system now has higher seeded teams host the first three rounds+ the divisional breakdown remains unchanged.  WMAN
  • Shelby's Quinton Albert was named the 2025 Mansfield News Journal Baseball Player of the Year — Plymouth's Jarrett Burrer earned the NJ Pitcher of the Year award after strong junior seasons. Albert hit .422, and Burrer posted a 2.17 ERA with 86 strikeouts to stand out this season.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Richland County softball players were named to the 2025 All-Ohio teams by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association, with honors in Divisions III, IV, and V—highlighting standout performers from Mansfield Madison, Lexington, and Ontario who impressed with their batting and pitching skills.  Mansfield News Journal
