COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Richland County Fair will feature a Nature Park running from Aug. 3 to 9 with an exhibit open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.—offering interactive games like a stormwater cornhole game, a Raindrop Contest and a Kids Scavenger Hunt on Aug. 5 while also scheduling talks on turtles on Aug. 4 and snakes on Aug. 6. Visitors will enjoy live music at 7 p.m. each evening and a quiet area with benches under shady trees maintained by local volunteers.  Mansfield News Journal
  • The 175th Richland County Fair will run from Sunday through Aug. 9 at the fairgrounds at 750 N. Home Rd in Mansfield—featuring carnival games, livestock shows, rides starting at noon, and special events such as a Christian concert Tuesday and a demolition derby Saturday. Admission is free for children under 48 inches while wristband prices vary, and seniors and veterans receive special rates on select days.  Mansfield News Journal

  • Ohio's two-week sales tax holiday begins today and ends August 14, offering tax-free deals on items under $500 such as clothing, electronics and home goods—online orders on Amazon and Walmart that meet the limit will also be free of tax.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Governor Mike DeWine asked the Ohio Casino Control Commission to remove prop bets from legal betting after MLB placed two Cleveland Guardians pitchers on leave due to a sports betting investigation—he will seek support from the major sports leagues and their players' unions to ban in-game prop bets and protect athlete integrity. This move comes after past rule changes stopped prop betting on collegiate events, though professional contests still allow them.  WMAN
  • Gov. Mike DeWine called on the Ohio Casino Control Commission to ban prop betting on professional sports after a gambling probe led to two Guardians pitchers being placed on leave—he said he will ask major league sports commissioners and players unions to support the move because the practice harms athletes and game integrity.  Mansfield News Journal
