COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Trent Rodman and Paytan Byrd (both 16) from Shelby were named the 2025 Richland County Fair King and Queen after a detailed interview showcased their leadership in FFA and 4-H. Byrd said she planned to start a mentoring program for children with little exposure to livestock while Rodman called his announcement as king a memorable moment.  Mansfield News Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 60-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman from Mansfield were seriously injured in a hit-skip crash involving a motorcycle and a white pick-up truck at a roundabout on US Highway 42 and SR 302— the truck fled the scene as authorities began investigating.  News 5 Cleveland

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library is inviting local artists to submit two-dimensional works for its fall exhibit exploring themes of identity, home and belonging — submissions are due by Sept. 5 and the exhibit will run from Sept. 22 to Nov. 14.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Miss Ohio, Olivia Fosson, visited Mansfield iHeart Radio in early August—she was crowned on June 21st at the Renaissance Theatre and will compete at Miss America in early September. She spoke with Aaron Hines on WMAN's Local Talk program.  WMAN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Mansfield are urged to report and kill the invasive spotted lanternfly, first found in Ohio in 2020 — as the insect harms local plants by leaving behind sticky honeydew. Experts advise that crushing the bug or using approved insecticides may help protect gardens and crops — with care taken to avoid harming good insects.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nine new police officers were sworn in on August 4, raising the Mansfield Police Department's force to 89—after graduating the police academy and completing their training.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Voters in parts of Mansfield and Madison Township will receive new polling place details by mail before November 4. Mansfield precincts 5A and 6B and Madison Township D, E, and O will vote at Eastbrook Center+Ram Booster Bingo Hall while Madison Township I voters will cast ballots at McElroy Road Church of Christ.  Mansfield News Journal
