  • United Way of Richland County is launching its Summer of Caring Food Drive today to help Catholic Charities and The Salvation Army by asking residents to drop off unopened, non-perishable items at local library branches until August 29. MHS Industrial Supply of Mansfield will sort the donations — needed items include pasta, canned vegetables, meats, and peanut butter.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Today, the Mansfield News Journal earned second place for general excellence in Division I at the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors awards in Columbus—among newspapers with fewer than 10 employees, it collected six individual awards. CRIME NEWS

  • Mansfield Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead on Sunday—officers responded to a call on the 200 block of South Main Street where the victim was taken to a nearby hospital and later died while no suspect has been identified.  News 5 Cleveland

  • Mansfield Liederkranz will host Treffen2025— a German cultural festival with music, food and traditional games from Aug.29 to 31. Up to 1,500 people from across North America are expected to attend, supporting local hotels, restaurants and attractions.  Mansfield News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio State Mansfield professor Tim Berra will launch his new book on early Polynesian inhabitants at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 in the John and Pearl Conard Performance Hall on campus—he will discuss migration evidence using maps, photos, and excerpts while copies are available for purchase.  Mansfield News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mansfield residents are invited to vote for the 2025 Ohio Cardinal Conference football champion as teams like Ashland, which finished 12-1 last season, compete with others such as New Philadelphia and Lexington — voting ends at 7 p.m. on Friday.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Mansfield readers are invited to vote for the predicted champion in the 2025 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference football championship using last year's standings (Shelby 12-1, Ontario 12-2, Galion 7-4, River Valley 5-6, Pleasant 5-6, Clear Fork 4-7, Highland 3-7, Marion Harding 1-9) as a guide.
