- ➤ Residents will join the North Central/Mansfield Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 13 at Richland Carrousel Park, 75 N. Main St.—registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Promise Garden Ceremony starts at 10 a.m. Participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s by carrying colored flowers and raising funds for care and research.— Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ A Tennessee hiker died after he picked up a timber rattlesnake that bit his hand, and experts note that similar snakes also live in Ohio. Ohio’s timber rattlesnake, copperhead and massasauga rattlesnake are rare and help control pests — officials urge caution if encountered. Mansfield News Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mansfield City Council approved a new contract with AFSCME Local 3088 on Tuesday after a 41-minute executive session ended lengthy contract talks for about 150 workers who had no contract since April. Mayor Jodie Perry said she looks forward to a positive working relationship — she expects the final contract details soon. Mansfield News Journal
