CRIME NEWS

  • Mansfield police say 18-year-old Ja’myrion Hobbs was shot multiple times in an alley between Lexington Ave and South Main Street on Sunday and his body was sent for autopsy while detectives investigate several suspects—community members are asked to share any new tips.  WMAN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio must draw a new congressional map this year because the last plan was unfair — the Equal Districts Coalition asks lawmakers to use a fair process. Legislators have until Sept. 30 to agree on new borders that will guide elections until 2030.  NBC4i
  • Sgt. Mike Smith and Motor Vehicle Inspector Ryan Swank spoke on WMAN about back to school safety—discussing school bus inspections as local schools begin classes this week.  WMAN

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced a recall on August 19 of two-pound bags of Great Value brand frozen shrimp sold at Walmart in Ohio after tests found dangerous levels of Cs-137—a radioactive substance that may cause burns, radiation sickness, or cancer, so consumers and retailers are urged to dispose of the product safely.  Mansfield News Journal
  • NAMI Richland County is moving to a larger office at 2131 Park Avenue West Suite 200 in Hawkins Corner to meet rising mental health needs and offer training and support groups. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Sept. 8 from 2-4 p.m.—open for the public to tour the space and meet local partners.  Mansfield News Journal
  • A Northeast Ohio cheese co-op recalled over 5,000 pounds of cheese after tests found Listeria monocytogenes in products made in June and July and sold in Ohio between July 14 and Aug. 7—Consumers should dispose of or return the cheese for a refund.  Mansfield News Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Gisela Shoemaker, 84, and Hans Reich, 88, got married on July 10 at the Richland County Courthouse—both met at the Ontario Health and Fitness Center where they exercised regularly. They held a reception the next day at the fitness center, showing that love can come at any age.  News 5 Cleveland

SPORTS NEWS

  • David Yaney, who owns American Fight Promotions, will host an MMA event on Saturday at TOCA Soccer Center near Columbus with six pro fights and ten amateur fights — the best pro fight earns a $1,000 bonus. Local hip-hop shows, a celebrity guest, and food trucks will add to the event while fans who cannot attend can watch on pay-per-view.  Mansfield News Journal
