COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catholic Charities HOPE Food Pantry in Mansfield is low on food and is rationing supplies as client demand increased 30%, and local donors contributed a $600 check + additional funds are expected while community members can drop off needed nonperishable items through Aug 29.  Mansfield News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Following Sunday's deadly shooting that killed 18-year-old Ja’Myrion Hobbs, Mansfield police arrested a 25-year-old and a 15-year-old on first-degree murder charges related to a suspected gang conflict—officials said further investigation is underway and no additional suspects are being sought.  News 5 Cleveland

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Mansfield Symphony will perform a free Classical Mansfield concert at Renaissance Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 featuring world class violinist Yvonne Lam. Music Director and Conductor Octavio Mas Arocas will present a mix of contemporary, romantic, and jazz pieces—tickets remain free for all.  Mansfield News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Ohio climbed last week, with the average rising to $3.08 on Monday from $2.92—up 19 cents since last month—and are 9% lower than a year ago’s $3.37, according to the Energy Information Administration.  Mansfield News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Shelby Whippets returned to football with a strong season opener as they beat the Rams 56—14 at Startek Stadium in Madison on Friday night. Quarterback Brayden DeVito led the team with multiple touchdowns while they gained 472 total yards and set their sights on a 2025 state championship.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Week 1 of high school football in Richland County is complete—the Clear Fork Colts beat the Perkins Pirates 17 to 14 with a walk-off field goal and the Crestview Cougars lost 2 to 0 via safety—and Mansfield Senior fell 7 to 38 to Hilliard Davidson.  Mansfield News Journal
