COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Richland Academy of the Arts was honored with the 2025 Community Service Award from the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging for its senior programs promoting movement+creativity. Commissioner Cliff Mears+Sen. Mark Romanchuk presented the award on Aug. 15, recognizing nearly 24 years of community service.  Mansfield News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Central Ohio gas prices jumped last week as an Indiana refinery went offline after storms — the average rose 28 cents to $3.42 per gallon, 23 cents higher than four weeks ago. Experts say prices will soon stabilize after the outage was fixed.  NBC4i

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual celebration on Sept. 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Hawkins Corner where the event — featuring lunch and awards — will let eligible voters cast a ballot for an open board supervisor position between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and the cost is $25 per person with reservations required by Sept. 4.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine asked the Ohio Board of Pharmacy on Aug. 25 to ban kratom from stores—citing over 200 overdose deaths between 2019 and 2024 as proof it is a public health risk. He said both natural and synthetic forms of the herbal extract should be classified as illegal drugs.  Mansfield News Journal
