  • Merris Welge was named Richland County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen for 2025 for his decades of volunteer work with SCORE, Richland Newhope Industries, and Habitat for Humanity. He was honored on Aug 15 (at Hawkins Corner) with proclamations from local and state leaders.  Mansfield News Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The J. M. Smucker Co. is recalling select Hostess Chocolate Ding Dongs products due to possible mold on items with Best By dates from August 30 to September 3 — consumers should not eat these products and must return them for a refund or replacement. SpartanNash, which supplies nearly 2,500 retail locations and operates stores in our area, issued the recall — it is not yet clear which specific stores are affected.  NBC4i

CRIME NEWS

  • Kenneth Otten, a 31-year-old from California, pleaded guilty on Monday to 25 drug counts in Richland County Common Pleas Court after Mansfield post troopers stopped his rental on Interstate 71—he will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 24.  Mansfield News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Renaissance Theatre will launch its 2025-26 Ghostlight Cabaret Series on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at its Ghostlight Lounge when local music legend Kelly Knowlton will perform a mix of showtunes, jazz and pop favorites—accompanied on piano by Renaissance Artistic Director Michael Thomas.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Ohio State Mansfield announced its upcoming theater season for 2025 to 2026 with a new play MLES2GO, Medea and musical 1776 scheduled on different dates at Founders Auditorium and The Mansfield Playhouse. Public auditions for MLES2GO and Medea will be held on Sept. 2 and 3 and for 1776 on Jan. 13 and 14 while a free screening of The Farewell is set for Oct. 29.  Mansfield News Journal
