- ➤ Ohio State Mansfield and Metronome Music will offer free guitar lessons for the community starting Oct. 22 at Riedl Hall Room 151 from 4 to 4:50 p.m.—sessions are independent and scheduled on Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 5, Nov. 12, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10. The lessons will include live performances, hands-on practice and interactive Q&A sessions with Nate Weiland and are open to all ages, with visitors under 18 required to attend with a guardian. - ➤ Dr. John Boyle, 82, was denied parole for the third time by the Ohio Parole Board—community opposition and the serious nature of his 1990 conviction for killing his estranged wife on Dec. 31 drove the decision—and he will remain in prison for at least another five years. Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ A Taylor Swift tribute concert called 'Are You Ready For It? A Taylor Experience' will be held at the Renaissance Theatre on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. with Traci Marie performing as Taylor Swift; a pre-concert dance class led by Studio 65 Dance Complex will start at 6 p.m.—attendees can trade friendship bracelets and dress in costumes representing their favorite Swift era. - ➤ Farmers in North Central Ohio said recent rains helped corn and soybean crops grow; rain gauges at Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport recorded 14.25 inches of rain this summer—2½ inches above normal. John Schroeder said that rain in August is critical to fill the crop and boost yields in counties like Richland and Crawford. Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ Under a bipartisan Ohio Senate bill now introduced, declawing cats would be banned unless medically necessary—critics say the procedure is like amputation of a cat's paw. - ➤ City and county officials joined judges at Friday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at the courthouse as a new fourth courtroom was dedicated to speeding up cases—its $600,000 design and extra space are expected to boost efficiency by 33%.
