COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at 490 Tracy St as Love Our Hero's of Bellville and hundreds of volunteers began building a new ADA compliant home for veteran Ron Bigelow on his family's homestead. The home will be free of charge and construction is expected to take about five months — Bigelow expressed surprise and gratitude for the community support.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Downtown Mansfield Inc. will host the Fab Four & More Fest on Sept. 20, where four events will offer art, music, family fun and a look at local history. Man-A-fest will start at 11 a.m., Oktoberfest at The Phoenix Brewing Company will begin at noon with a Stein Hoist Finals at 12:05 p.m.—and Hooves and Handbars alongside a self-guided Secret City Tour will round out the day.  Mansfield News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Zumper data shows that Mansfield apartment rental prices increased 6% from last year's $800 to $850 in August while one-bedroom listings dropped 1% and two-bedroom listings rose 5% from July, and prices remain much lower than state and national medians — keeping local housing costs affordable.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daylight saving time will end on Nov. 2 at 2 a.m. when clocks will be set back one hour—giving residents an extra hour of sleep—while Ohio lawmakers and Congress continue discussions on making the practice permanent. Senate Concurrent Resolution 6 remains in committee, leaving the state's time change policy undecided.  Mansfield News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mansfield will host the North Central/Mansfield Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Richland Carrousel Park on Sept 13 — the walk will begin at 9 a.m. and include a Promise Garden ceremony to honor those affected by the disease, while organizers say rising cases and doubled deaths since 2000 make the funds raised vital for education, research, and support groups.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Dani’s Place Mental Health Rehabilitation Center is a new treatment home that will open this fall in northwest Ohio to help people leaving hospital care get ongoing support. Named for Mansfield native Dani Leedy, the center was created by her family through nonprofit 33 Forever and will serve 16 residents in a 17,000-square-foot building—designed to fill a gap in care.  WMAN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ontario's All-Ohio girls soccer players Hattie Yugovich and Addi Pittman scored two goals each in a 4-0 win over Madison—giving the Warriors their first regular-season win against the Rams since 2022. Coach Larry Atkinson said the strong play raises team confidence as they prepare to meet Medina on Sept. 13.  Mansfield News Journal
