Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 12th of September.
Good morning, Mansfield.
Bryce Imars of the Mansfield Ohio Highway Patrol devised a plan—first responders and Shelby High School students will honor the victims of 9/11 with a community ceremony.
The event will bring local participants together to remember those lost.
The public is invited to gather in the parking lot of the Area Agency on Aging at Park Avenue West and Lexington-Springmill Road to welcome veterans home from their three-day Honor Bus trip to Washington D.C.—veterans are scheduled to arrive between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Field of Honor 2025 will honor military and first responders for their sacrifices—U.S. Navy veteran Doug Theaker is the keynote speaker at the event.
AccuWeather and Old Farmer's Almanac forecast that leaves will start changing in late September and reach peak color by mid-October (Ohio is expected to show vibrant red, orange and golden hues this fall).
This prediction follows last year's early, muted colors caused by drought despite adequate spring and summer rain.
Doctors warned that Ohio will soon see an increase in flu and RSV cases as colder weather arrives, and they urged everyone six months and older to get a flu shot.
Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff and Dr. Jason Newland said proper hygiene and timely vaccinations are key to keeping the viruses from worsening—RSV poses extra risk for babies.
Crestline hosted Mansfield Christian in a Mid—Buckeye Conference volleyball match on Thursday afternoon that filled the Dawg House with K—12 students, and the Flames won in three sets—25—14, 25—18, and 25—10; Mansfield Christian will host a return match next year to further grow the sport.
