ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Ohio dropped for a second week as regular fuel averaged $2.99 per gallon on Monday—down from $3.17 last week and 6.2% lower than the national average. A year ago, prices were 2% higher at $3.04 per gallon.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Ohio's new unemployment claims dropped to 4,713 from 5,033 last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. National claims rose to 263,000 — with North Dakota reporting the biggest percentage gain and Tennessee the largest decrease.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed Ohio bill would let utility companies remotely adjust customers' thermostats and appliances during peak energy use to help lower bills. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will evaluate each program’s cost-effectiveness over a three-year period while customers may override the settings anytime.  NBC4i

HEALTH NEWS

  • The federal government program that mailed free COVID-19 tests ended, so locals now must use community health partners—public libraries or retail pharmacies for tests, with some insurance covering the cost. Ohio recorded nearly 300 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the weeks ending Sept. 6.  Mansfield News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Richland County high school football teams won six of nine games in Week 4, outscoring opponents 261-61 and recording three shutouts—Mansfield Senior Tygers lost 45-6 to West Holmes and now have a 0-4 record as they host New Philadelphia in Week 5.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Ontario and Clear Fork played in Week 4 as a video shows key football plays—capturing the game moments for local fans.  Mansfield News Journal
  • The Clear Fork Colts won a 14-10 game against the Ontario Warriors in Week 4 of the football season (the game was close) as they built on their early season momentum.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Yesterday, Shelby High beat Galion Tigers 45 to 34 in Week 4 of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference football game at Shelby High. The game was played Friday night and highlighted strong effort from the Whippets.  Mansfield News Journal
