- ➤ Mansfield residents will be able to drop off unwanted junk at the NECIC Community Outreach Center on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free Dumpster Day (dumpsters will close once full) where scrap metal is accepted while liquid wastes, tires, batteries, harmful chemicals, large appliances, yard waste and construction debris are not allowed. - ➤ Richland Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Conservation Creation Arts & Crafts Workshop at South Park Log Cabin, 100 Brinkerhoff Avenue, on Oct. 14 at 5 p.m.—participants will tour historic village buildings, join a tree identification lesson with Jason Veil, and learn needle felting acorn making with Jean McClintock. Reservations must be made by Oct. 7 for $12. Mansfield News Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Shelby and Ontario volleyball teams hosted a fundraiser game on Tuesday night to raise funds for Baylie Hoffbauer's cancer treatments—raising over $800 from a raffle and donations. Hoffbauer, who had surgery to remove cancerous nodules and now volunteers as a coach, will begin treatment in a couple of months—showing strong local support. Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ In Week 7, Shelby Whippets and Clear Fork Colts face off in a key contest—where the winner secures the No. 1 spot in the Richland County Football Power Poll and sole possession of first in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ At Monday's Division II district golf tournament at Sycamore Springs, Mansfield St. Peter's junior Chaeyeon Kim earned medalist honors by overcoming a slow start and difficult back nine to win by four strokes—she improved on her runner-up finish from last year. Meanwhile, the Wynford girls team finished runner-up with Caroline Sheldon leading strong play that boosted their performance from previous tournaments. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Madison clinched the OCC title on senior night with a three to one win over Lexington as seniors stepped up in the second half — Carter Branham scored key goals to secure the win. - ➤ Voting for Mansfield News Journal Football Player of the Week nominees is open until 7 p.m. on Oct. 3—last week, Lexington's Cole Eichorn was named the winner with 656 votes out of 4,318 cast. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Voting for the Mansfield News Journal Athlete of the Week is open and will end at 7 p.m. Friday—last week's winner Aiden Henry of Manfield Senior received 1,578 votes out of 4,090 total ballots cast. Mansfield News Journal
