COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Richland Rural Life Center will host its annual chicken dinner on Oct 4 from 4-6 p.m. at 969 E. Crall Road in Mansfield – the event will offer slow-cooked chicken with sides and homemade vanilla ice cream, with tickets at $12 for adults and $7 for seniors and children 10 and under.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Today at 6:30 p.m., the City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission is hosting a free town hall meeting and tree planting at North Lake Park Pavilion to celebrate 30 years as a Tree City USA and the 30th anniversary of the B&O Bike Trail with remarks from Mayor Jodie Perry and other community leaders.  Mansfield News Journal

  • Black Fork Forest Preserve is near the intersection of Bowen Road and Fleming Falls Road in Mifflin Township, Richland County.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Boxelder bugs, dark brown with red stripes, are invading homes and trees this fall as they seek winter shelter—some nymphs even resort to cannibalism to mature into adults for survival.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Richland County and the Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board will graduate the 35th CIT class at noon on October 10 at Mansfield Playhouse — 95 E. Third St. The 40-hour program, developed in the 1980s, trains law enforcement and first responders to safely handle mental health crises.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Richland County Transit is launching a one-year pilot program funded by a federal grant to expand bus service in Mansfield for workers with nontraditional hours—adding early morning and late-night trips from Monday through Friday—and local stakeholders will help shape the service.  Mansfield News Journal
