- ➤ The Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield will host a screening of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' at 10 p.m. Oct. 31 to mark its 50th anniversary—audiences can purchase tickets for $6.66 or $15 with a prop bag and are encouraged to wear costumes and bring props. Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ Richland County Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher is sponsoring a free self defense class at Team Chitwood’s Martial Arts & Fitness on Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m.—the event honors Domestic Violence Awareness Month, is held at 314 E. Main St, and requires participants to wear athletic clothing and no jewelry. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Two Ohio representatives have introduced House Bill 450—allowing pregnant women to use handicap parking spaces with a temporary placard from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles—for review by the Children and Human Services Committee. If approved, the bill will move to the Senate before reaching Governor DeWine for his signature. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Aurelio Diaz (who works with OhioRISE) is finishing his first term on council and is running for the 5th Ward seat against newcomer Joetta McCreuter-Polk, a Mansfield native who wants to improve housing and local services. Diaz, known for his monthly cleanups against homelessness and blight, and McCreuter-Polk (a former foster-care recruiter) are vying for the seat with different plans to help their neighbors. - ➤ Kroger announced it is recalling its Basil Pesto Bowtie Salads and Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salads because the pasta may have listeria monocytogenes—these products were sold at 1,860 stores in 28 states and customers are urged to return them for a refund. NBC4i
- ➤ Stacy Pope, a two-time North Central State College graduate, was honored on Oct. 2 for her nursing career and leadership at OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals — she helped guide Mansfield to its first Magnet designation and mentors new nurses each day. Mansfield News Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Girls soccer teams in the Northwest District have set their postseason schedules with Division III games starting on Oct. 15—Ontario Warriors will host Tiffin Columbian while Shelby travels to Norwalk, and the semifinal will take place at Lexington High School on Oct. 22 with a championship on Oct. 25. Division IV, V and II teams will also play scheduled sectional and district title matches at local high schools—Clear Fork Colts, Mansfield Christian Flames and Ashland Arrows leading their brackets through additional championship games. - ➤ Northwest District volleyball teams have set their postseason paths with sectional matches beginning Oct. 15, and winners moving on to district semifinals and championships at schools like Willard and Seneca East. Divisions III, V, VI and VII will play scheduled games at venues such as Lexington and Tiffin Columbian—each match critical for advancing in the tournament. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Voting for the Mansfield News Journal Athlete of the Week is open until 7 p.m. Friday, and local fans can cast their vote to select this week’s top athlete. Last week, Shelby’s Aubrey Lay—who received 4,845 votes out of 13,460 total—won the title. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Northwest District boys soccer teams will begin their postseason in Divisions II, III, IV and V starting Oct. 13 and ending with district championships on Oct. 23 or 25.
