  • Richland County Park District will host fall events from Oct 12 to Oct 18—featuring Nature Storytime at Fleming Falls on Oct 13, a Homeschool Program and Animal Feeding Day at Gorman Nature Center on Oct 14, Oaks & Acorns and a hike with Mr. Josh on Oct 15, a BioBlitz on Oct 16, Invasives Removal Day on Oct 17, and a Birds & Breakfast Bird Walk with a Parkrun on Oct 18.  Mansfield News Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fall colors are peaking in parts of northeast Ohio, but dry weather means leaves in other areas may change quickly and not last long. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources released an updated map on Oct. 9 to show where the bright hues are most vivid + cautioned that recent rain might hasten the fading process.  Mansfield News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Richland Public Health is hosting a free Community Health Day on Oct. 17 at 555 Lexington Ave from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering screenings, vaccines, and health resources from partners including Avita Health Systems and Cleveland Clinic. Attendees may receive free produce from Grace Episcopal Church + Pantry and enjoy cooking demos from IdeaWorks Kitchen while free transportation is available.  Mansfield News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mansfield Senior Tygers earned their first win of the season with a 34-21 victory over Wooster on Friday night, giving coach Antonio Fletcher his first career win. The Lucas Cubs picked up a 22-15 win over Reynolds that boosted their playoff rankings and set them up to host Lutheran East next week.  Mansfield News Journal
  • On Oct. 10, the Shelby Whippets shut out the Ontario Warriors 42–0 in Week 8—capitalizing on turnovers to score 21 points and record their third shutout of the season. The win improved Shelby to 8–0 overall and 5–0 in the MOAC, and they will host Pleasant in Week 9 to clinch a share of the league title.  Mansfield News Journal
