BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon will hire roughly 11,000 seasonal, full-time and part-time workers in Ohio as part of a plan to add 250,000 positions nationwide ahead of the holiday season. Applicants in Ohio will earn over $19 per hour for seasonal roles—job listings will be posted weekly through December.  Mansfield News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Mansfield Symphony Youth Strings will perform their Fall Concert on November 16 at Lexington High School. The ensemble of 50 students led by local musician Alora Eyerly will start at 3:30 p.m.—tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daylight saving time will end on Sunday, November 2 at 2 a.m. when clocks will be turned back one hour—bringing earlier sunsets and longer nights. Ohio lawmakers have urged Congress to make the change permanent but federal action remains pending.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Officials warned that if the federal shutdown continues into November, nearly 1.4M Ohioans will miss their SNAP payments starting Nov. 1 and lose access to about $263.4M in benefits with an average of $190, which may force tough choices between food and other needs. Gov. DeWine called the situation worsening while Rep. Humphrey proposed borrowing from the state’s rainy day fund+ the USDA is preparing a contingency plan if funds fall short.  Mansfield News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Ohio’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Project offers free mammogram screenings—eligibility covers low-income and uninsured women—in an effort to detect cancer early. The American Cancer Society projects 11,800 new breast cancer cases in Ohio while early detection maintains near-100% survival rates in early-stage cases.  Mansfield News Journal

  • Buckeye Central beat Mansfield Christian 25-16, 25-12, 25-21 in a Division VI district semifinal at Shelby High School on Tuesday night, advancing to the district championship. The team will face Van Buren on Thursday for the district title—coach Missy McDougal said her squad plans to review film before the next match.  Mansfield News Journal
