- ➤ On Wednesday, Mansfield Noon Optimist Club donated 575 cold-weather items and $100 to Grace Episcopal Church as vehicles arrived around 1 p.m. Member Tom Conn said the donation marks the club’s 16th year of supporting warm weather needs (Ashley Home Store, Altrusa Club and Third Street Family Health Services helped), while the church will accept new or gently used coats and winter gear on Nov. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ Today, Giant Eagle is hosting a one-day event where Central Ohio shoppers can exchange at least 50 cents in pennies for a gift card worth twice the coin value + up to 10,000 pennies per transaction for a $200 gift card. - ➤ Gas prices in Ohio dropped last week from $3.01 to $2.92 per gallon+ making them about 3.7% lower than the national average, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Mansfield News Journal

- ➤ Ohio state agencies told nearly 9,000 federal-funded workers on Oct. 31 that they may be furloughed if the shutdown continues. Fewer than half of these employees might be affected as union contracts require a two-week notice — state officials hope Washington resolves the issue soon. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Senate President Rob McColley and House Speaker Matt Huffman announced an executive order to provide up to $25 million in food assistance if federal SNAP benefits are suspended, directing $7 million to food banks and doubling benefits for roughly 63,000 low-income families (including support for over 57,000 children) while Ohio Works First recipients will begin receiving extra funds by Nov. 7. - ➤ Ontario Warriors ended their season with a 35-0 loss to Toledo Central Catholic on Oct. 31 in the OHSAA Division III Region 10 playoffs. The team managed only one first down and threw an interception near the goal line before halftime while Toledo advanced with four touchdown passes and two receiving scores, leaving Ontario with a 6-5 record.
