- ➤ Sally Lanyon from Mansfield helped create Ohio State's mascot Brutus Buckeye in fall 1965 with her partner Ray Bourhis by making a big paper nut that first appeared at a homecoming game on Oct. 30 + she still writes on her blog and meets with alumni to keep the mascot's legacy alive. - ➤ Lexington sports stars Ava Brown, Tatum Stover — and Bella Temple were named Division III All-Ohioans for the 2025 volleyball season by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association, marking them among the state's top players. Brown earned first team honors while Stover received third team and Bella was given an honorable mention. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Voting is open for the Mansfield News Journal Athlete of the Week with votes closing at 7 p.m. Friday—Crestview’s Emmie Kemp won last week with 3,421 votes out of a total of 5,502. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Shelby Whippets and Lexington Minutemen remain the two Richland County teams in the OHSAA playoffs—Shelby is the No. 1 seed in Division IV Region 14 while Lexington is the No. 3 seed in Division III Region 10. Shelby hosts Orrville and Lexington hosts Toledo Central Catholic Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.—both teams earned first-round byes for a top-four seed. Mansfield News Journal
