- ➤ Shelby First Lutheran Church is asking for volunteers and donations for its free Thanksgiving dinner, needing cooks at 8 a.m., servers at 11:30 a.m. and cleanup help at 1:30 p.m.—the church also seeks extra turkey, pie and monetary donations with more details coming soon. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ JPB Professional Marketing is expanding its annual turkey giveaway on Nov. 20 at South Park, 100 Brinkerhoff Ave. in Mansfield. The event starts at 9 a.m. and will offer 360 $25 Butterball gift checks usable at Kroger, Meijer or Walmart with a one-check-per-household rule + residents are asked to remain in their vehicles and bring ID if carpooling. - ➤ Queen of Hearts fans gathered outside City Grille on West Fourth Street on Nov. 13 when owner Melissa Lawrence revealed an eight of spades, leaving the jackpot unclaimed. About 1,000 people attended until 7 p.m. and the jackpot will grow to $559,196 on Nov. 20 while three consolation prizes of $100, $200 & $300 were announced. Mansfield News Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio deer hunters have harvested 64,437 deer through Nov. 9 + roughly 2,500 fewer than the three-year average, according to the ODNR. Coshocton County leads with 2,521 deer + the archery season will continue until Feb. 1. Mansfield News Journal
- ➤ Ohio’s 2025-26 deer season will feature archery from September 27 through February 1, gun season on December 1-7 and December 20-21, muzzleloader on January 3-6, and a youth event on November 22-23—new bag limits in Athens, Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties will go into effect December 1 due to an EHD outbreak. - ➤ The OHSAA state football playoffs regional semifinal games on Nov. 14 ended with winners advancing to championship matchups across divisions I to VII — teams showed strong performances in games ranging from decisive wins to close contests.
