- ➤ The News Journal and its partners launched the 79th Brighten A Christmas program—originally started on Dec. 7th, 1947—to accept donations like gift cards and cash until Dec. 12th and help local families facing health and financial challenges, with Richland County Job & Family Services, Mechanics Bank and New Store working together. - ➤ United Way of Richland County approved $20,000—set as $2,000 each for 10 food pantries in Mansfield and Richland County during the week of Nov. 17—to help local residents get food amid rising need from a federal shutdown. - ➤ Firelands Electric Cooperative has teamed up with WLKR-FM and K96-FM to collect care package items for USO Ohio’s Step Up for Soldiers drive. The drive will run now through Dec. 19 at the co-op office on 103 Industrial Drive in New London—donating travel-size hygiene products and single-serve snacks. Mansfield News Journal
