  • St. Peter’s Classic & Bake Sale 2025 is set to occur soon on St. Peter’s grounds—local organizers will host a bake sale and community classic contest to raise funds for local programs.  Mansfield News Journal
  • WOSU Public Media is countering $2.5 million in funding cuts by launching the Storytellers Trust to support local storytelling projects—such as INSIDE: Caregiving and New Perspectives: From Bach to Biggie—that aim to keep the station's programming alive. General Manager Anthony Padgett spoke on Nov. 25 at a joint Mansfield Rotary and Kiwanis meeting to stress that focusing on community engagement will help the station adapt to a changing media landscape.  Mansfield News Journal
  • Local officials surveyed downtown Mansfield today to rediscover the city's enduring architecture — public art was also featured as part of the ongoing Main Street Improvement Project beautification efforts.  Mansfield News Journal

  • Pioneer Career & Technology Center honored The Willows at Willard as the Ralph Phillips Business Partner of the Year for offering mentorship and job placement programs that help prepare future healthcare professionals. The senior living community—providing assisted living and clinical training—partners with local education programs to train students through clinical placements.  Mansfield News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Justin Ross—an Ashland native with extensive experience in event growth and community partnerships—has been named executive director of the Buckeye Imagination Museum and will work with staff and partners to expand programs that inspire play and discovery in North Central Ohio.  Mansfield News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sixteen area high schools competed in MOESC's Fall Academic Challenge League, with Lexington High School winning Varsity A with 227 points and Mansfield Christian School taking Varsity B with 263 points. Lexington also won the junior varsity lighting round with a 14 to 12 win over Colonel Crawford during a two-day in-person tournament.  Mansfield News Journal
  • The Shelby Foundation is accepting applications for a $1,000 nursing scholarship for registered nurses in Richland County pursuing higher education. Applicants must submit their complete application by Dec. 5 to be considered for the Wanda June Humphrey Nursing Scholarship honoring a local nurse who served the community for over 26 years.  Mansfield News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts warn that shoveling snow poses serious risks for adults over 45 and those with heart issues—using ergonomic tools and taking breaks is advised to prevent heart strain during heavy snowfall. Residents are encouraged to ask for help while clearing sidewalks as winter weather advisories remain in effect.  Mansfield News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ohio deer hunting gun season - the state's most popular method - opened Dec. 1 and will run until sunset Dec. 7 amid a deadly deer disease outbreak that forced lower bag limits in some counties, with Athens, Meigs, and Washington counties allowing only one deer and Morgan County two. The gun season follows a youth-only weekend on Nov. 22 and 23, and hunters must have a valid license before heading into the field.  Mansfield News Journal
