ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ohio gas prices dropped to $2.53 per gallon Monday, down from $2.84 the week before, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Prices were 11.1% lower than the national average and nearly 19% lower than a year ago (data by the EIA).  Mansfield News Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Native wildlife is returning in 2025 as black bears, fishers, bobcats, and bald eagles are spotted in areas once emptied of these animals (a black bear was fatally struck near Mansfield in Richland County), signaling a significant shift for the state's ecosystem.  Mansfield News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost warned parents on Dec. 24, 2025 to look out for unusual mail, calls about debt, or IRS notices that may mean a child's identity is stolen—he urged them to freeze credit records with major bureaus to keep children safe.  Mansfield News Journal

  • On Dec. 24, the Mansfield News Journal named Sam Gwirtz of Shelby as defensive player, Joe Caudill of Lexington as offensive player, and Brayden DeVito of Shelby as the first-ever MNJ Mr. Football Award winner, recognizing standout achievements in the high school football season.  Mansfield News Journal
